Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue
Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue
with Mavis Staples
An ambassador and an icon come to the Ting Pavilion on Tuesday, June 6th when Trombone Shorty and Mavis Staples team up for an evening of New Orleans jazz and old school rhythm and blues. Trombone Shorty, aka Troy Andrews, has become one of the Crescent City’s most recognizable musical personalities, and along with his backing band Orleans Avenue, brings the funk, N’awlins-style, to every town he visits. He embodies the soul of the city in a way that respects his roots while pushing the boundaries of his ever-evolving sound. Staples is simply—unquestionably—a living legend. As a member of the Staples Singers and as a solo performer, she was the voice of multiple R&B, soul, and gospel hits, such as “I’ll Take You There.” As a civil rights activist who marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. she was the voice of freedom. At 83, with her voice as powerful as ever, and accompanied by her long-time touring band, she’ll take you there and bring the house down. She’s not to be missed.
