Old Crow Medicine Show - Paint This Town Tour
with Gangstagrass
More than two decades into a musical migration that’s taken Old Crow Medicine Show from the Valley of Virginia to the hallowed stage of the Ryman Auditorium – country music’s mother church – the Americana outfit can still turn any given evening into a Saturday night barnburner. When OCMS brings its Paint This Town tour to the Ting Pavilion on Thursday, April 28, the six-piece band will be sporting three new members and a passel of fresh material. Apart from serving as the grandpappy of the neo-string band movement that includes Mumford & Sons and The Avett Brothers, OCMS remains deeply influenced by the legacy of Bob Dylan. Fittingly, the band’s new songs invoke Dylan’s spirit by tackling social issues such as mountain-top removal, the opioid crisis, and the lingering legacy of the Confederacy. Never mind: When the declarations come in double-time, your feet will lead, and your conscience will follow. Expect to hear a shout-out during the show from founding member Ketch Secor to his roots in nearby Harrisonburg.
Gangstagrass combines great American traditions of bluegrass, hip-hop, and beyond to create a whole new musical genre that is more than the sum of its parts.
As latest album No Time For Enemies climbed to #1 on the Billboard bluegrass chart, Americana Highways magazine proclaimed Emmy-nominated Gangstagrass “America’s Band” because they take so much of what’s amazing about this country -- ingenuity, creativity, freedom, unity across differences, people’s individual strength and struggles -- and distill it into a message of common ground in the form of original songs that have everyone up & dancing!
